Coastal Leadership Academy is a new tuition free public charter high school serving students from Horry, Georgetown, and surrounding counties. The school is scheduled to open in August and will accept 160 students this year. Our goal is to grow to a maximum of 400 students over the next few years. We are part of the SC Public Charter School District and are not affiliated with Horry or Georgetown County School district, therefore we can take students from other areas. We offer a learning environment for students that is unlike any other in the state of South Carolina.
Coastal Leadership Academy’s mission is to engage students in Project Based Learning that fosters academic achievement, critical and creative thinking, and awareness of their leadership roles in the community and environment. We are currently renovating 12,000+ sq. feet of warehouse space that will become our classrooms and learning plaza. Our curriculum is based on the Common Core State Standards and uses Authentic Project-Based Learning. Students work in small groups as they find solutions to real-world problems. Challenging tasks are attempted each day as they strive to create products that will effectively communicate their findings. This is a very different approach than is traditionally found in high schools.
Please visit our website at www.coastalleadership.org so that you can get some additional background on our school and practices. We also have a Facebook page where you can see the progress of our building as we move through construction.
Administrative offices are open 8:30-4:30 Monday-Friday with staff available to speak to prospective students and parents about our school. School phone number is 843-294-9337.
