When a band like the PIXIES decide to have a "year" they make it count. So in July long time bassist for the band Kim Deal decides to call it quits. In all fairness they did take a 15 year or so hiatus, but have been touring together again since '05ish. The week she quit the band released a new single "Bagboy" and shortly after that announced they they were going to do some shows and had hired Kim Shattuck from The Muffs to replace Deal.
Ok...then just last week Shattuck Tweets that her time as the PIXIES bassist have come to an end. Uh oh...what are they going to do? They have a pretty massive tour starting in Jan. No problem...they hire another girl to play bass AND release another video. This time on bass, it's Paz Lenchatin who has played with A Perfect Circle, ZWAN and Queens Of The Stone Age...so she's no slouch.
You will have a chance to see the PIXIES in Durham, Asheville and Atlanta...and I recomind that you do. Here are all the tour dates and the new video for "Another Toe In The Ocean".

Here is a new video from Pixies EP "EP1" They blow up Joey real good.
It's pretty safe to say that Europe has MUCH cooler music TV than we do here in the states. I mean they don't even play music on the real MTV. If you get a chance watch "Later...With Jools Holland" on Paladia. In this case Arcade Fire performed on a French show where they played 3 songs off of the new album "Reflektor". They did the title track, the new single "Afterlife" and my favorite one on the album "Joan of Arc". You can see the performances below and read all about it at NME.com by clicking on the picture above of Win Butler.
Arcade Fire have been doing a handful of shows under the name The Reflektors. It started in NYC a couple weeks back and now they have moved on to the U.K. Turns out singer Win Butler decided to change his backing band to some Mariachi guys before their London show. Check out this margarita fueled version of the title track from their new album "Reflektor".
Like most Top 50 lists, when you think of "Top 50 Dark" albums everyone has their opion as to which artist brought out the most "doom and gloom". Ther is of course Joy Division, The Cure, The Smiths...all of which are on this handy list that NME.com has put together for us. But none of them are #1. Find out who is, but clicking on the pictures of Joy Division above.
